Another Phone Scam Reported In Vestavia Hills

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Another phone scam has been reported in Vestavia Hills, wherein a caller claims to be a Vestavia Hills police officer in an attempt to get money from victims.

The Vestavia Hills Police Department reported Thursday that they have already received reports of these calls, and warm residents not to fall for it.

"The phony detective calls from either a 1-800 number, or from a 205-518-9406 cellphone number," the VHPD said in a statement regarding the scam. "The caller ID shows VHPD's real number 823-1153. This spoofing of a police department number is not uncommon in these type scams. VHPD would never send you to a 1-800 number for any reason."

Anyone who gets a call like this is asked to contact the VHPD at 823-1153 so a report can be filed.
