Jefferson County To Enter Sale Agreement For Gresham Elementary

The Jefferson County Board of Education decided to move forward with the sale of Gresham Elementary School to Vestavia Hills.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — The Jefferson County Board of Education decided to move forward with the sale of Gresham Elementary School to the Vestavia Hills City School system at the board's regular meeting Thursday. The board unanimously approved Superintendent Craig Pouncey's recommendation to draft an agreement for the property's sale.

The actual sale is still dependent on approval by a federal judge, but the agreement should be finalized within the next few weeks. The Vestavia board will also need to officially accept the offer as well.

The process is similar to the purchase of the Berry campus in 2016, in which a federal judge's approval was required because of county desegregation laws. The full purchase took about five months total.
