Marvin Green Named Vestavia Hills Fire Chief

It was announced in a release Thursday that interim Fire Chief​ Marvin Green has officially taken the role.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – The five-month vacancy left in the Fire Department since Jim St. John retired earlier this year has finally been officially filled. The City of Vestavia announced in a release Thursday that former Assistant Chief of Administration Marvin Green has been named the new fire chief, effective immediately.

Green has served with the Vestavia Hills Fire Department for 19 years, and has served as interim fire chief since St. John stepped down.

"In light of this extensive evaluation, we feel that Marvin has the experience, temperament and skill set to be a successful, innovative leader of our fire service,” said City Manager Jeff Downes in the release.

Green will be sworn in during the next City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 18.
