Vestavia BOE Recognizes Student And Faculty Accomplishments

Students and administrators in the Vestavia school system were recognized Monday for recent achievements.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — In a week that saw the Vestavia school system report some good news on the COVID-19 front — just seven students in the system were absent due to positive tests — the Vestavia Hills Board of Education recognized recent accomplishments of the system's students and administrators as well.

National Merit Semifinalists

Thirteen seniors at Vestavia Hills High School have been named Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The students are among 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide who will have the opportunity to compete for some $30 million in scholarships. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of high school seniors in the U.S.
National Merit Semifinalists at VHHS are: Maria Deng, Ranee Brady, Margaret Patton, Christina Sorochinsky, Catherine Kramer, Katelynn Holt, Savan Patel, Jonathan Wilson, Ethan Wylie, John Ham, Brian Chen, Frank Qiang, and John Paul Pierre.

Vestavia Hills High School Habitat for Humanity Club

The Vestavia Hills High School Habitat for Humanity Club completed its second annual “Love Your Neighbor Week” in September. The 2021 Love Your Neighbor Week included a day of community service, a school support day, a “shop local” day, a day encouraging community members to support local restaurants, and a community concert in Wald Park. As part of the week, students raised more than $7,000 through individual donations to provide every employee in Vestavia Hills City Schools with a boxed lunch from Chick-fil-A. Proceeds from Love Your Neighbor Week will be applied toward the group’s efforts to build a home this spring for a family in the greater Birmingham area.
