Vestavia Hills High School Football Player With Down Syndrome Scores Touchdown
VHHS senior Jake Pratt made a splash at the VHHS season opener when he scored a touchdown against Briarwood Christian.
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Friday night wasn't just the season opener for the Vestavia Hills High School Rebels. It was also night senior Jake Pratt scored his first touchdown.
Pratt, who has Down Syndrome, got to dress out for the first time in the football team's first matchup against Briarwood Christian and, in a pre-orchestrated play, ran the ball down the field to put points on the board for the Rebels. As he entered the end zone, both teams rushed the field and huddled around Pratt in an uncommon display of unity, which can be seen in a video posted to Twitter by his sister, Amy.
My brother, Jake, is 18 & a senior at Vestavia. He also happens to have Down Syndrome. Tonight 2 teams helped to make his dream come true! pic.twitter.com/uLoP3KH8KR
