Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:
- The Bronson administration has launched an online form to report Anchorage mask mandate violations. The online form asks for the “name of the accused violator,” their contact information, the date of the alleged offense, and what happened. However, it’s unclear who is going to investigate the reports and what the penalties will be, as there is still no public information regarding any fines or penalties for violations of the mandate. - A new report ranks Anchorage as the 55th out of 95 U.S. cities in the country in terms of how easy it is to set up and run a business. Colorado Springs was rated as the easiest place in the country to do so, while Charleston, West Virginia was the most difficult. Bernadette Wilson, Alaska director of Americans for Prosperity, said the report should be a wake-up call, and is pushing for "less government regulations to support Alaska’s entrepreneurs and foster an environment that will create jobs and grow our economy." - The Anchorage Assembly has voted against confirming Mayor Dave Bronson’s pick for real estate director. The vote ended in a tie due to one member not voting, with five members in support and five opposed at the Thursday night meeting. Because it was a tie, the confirmation failed. Jim Winegarner, who had been acting real estate director since Sept. 16, was the subject of a whistleblower complaint from the city’s former real estate director, Christina Hendrickson.
