Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:
- Kids across Anchorage received free dental services on Friday as a part of the University of Alaska Anchorage's Children’s Day Dental Clinic. The event, hosted by the School of Allied Health’s dental hygiene program, gave 11 UAA dental students the opportunity to provide free services to Anchorage youths. Carri Shamburger, dental hygiene program director, said the Children’s Day Dental Clinic will be held again next year around the same time of year. (Anchorage Daily News)
- Southcentral Foundation and Alaska Native Medical Center, having fired dozens of employees who refused to get the Covid-19 vaccine, are giving bonuses to existing employees who refer prospective candidates. The referral payments range from $1,000 to $5,000, based on the position filled. If the referred candidate is hired and all requirements are met outlined in the Employee Referral Bonus Procedure, employees will receive the corresponding bonus, once the referred employee has been employed with SCF for a minimum of 6 months. - The Alaska Railroad has announced their vaccine mandate deadline is Dec. 8, or employees will face termination. The Alaska Railroad required vaccination for all new employees hired after Sept. 15, and currently has about 50 percent of the workforce vaccinated. Sources say many of the workers are contemplating striking due to the mandate. (Must Read Alaska)
