Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:

  1. Mayor Dave Bronson pushed back against a proposed mask mandate before the Anchorage Assembly and defended the use of yellow Stars of David worn by people in opposition to the proposal. The hearing started Tuesday and was expected to continue Thursday. The proposal before the Anchorage Assembly would require people to wear masks in indoor public spaces and outdoors at large events (U.S. News & World Report)
  2. The Anchorage municipal clerk has accused the mayor’s office of using city resources in an attempt to influence the outcome of a recall election. Clerk Barbara Jones noted her objections in a letter Monday to Amy Demboski, the chief of staff for Mayor Dave Bronson, and IT manager Marc Dahl. The objections stem from a banner that was placed at the top of the city’s webpage, which doesn’t advocate how people should vote and only says that there is a special election and mail-in ballots are due Oct. 26.
