Here are the top stories in Anchorage today:
- An Anchorage woman died and a Wasilla man was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Parks Highway on Saturday. 38-year-old Melissa Joy Labriola was driving southbound when her car crossed the center line of the highway near mile 50 and struck a pickup driven by 35-year-old Gary Alan James Jr. Labriola died at the scene and troopers said James was brought to a hospital in serious condition. (Anchorage Daily News)
- Anchorage firefighters responded to a Turnagain neighborhood house fire on Monday. One person, who was in the home on Loussac Dr. when the fire broke out, was able to escape with their pet, and no other injuries have been reported. Crews are cautiously managing the fire because of the home’s condition. (Alaska News Source)
- Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and Global Credit Union have announce they are seeking regulatory approval of their intent to merge. The merger would combine Alaska USA's 700,000 members with Global's 45,000 members, and would result in an organization with combined assets of over $11 billion, making it one of the 15 largest credit unions in the country. The proposed merger requires approval by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and must also be approved by Global Credit Union members, with an anticipated effective date in late 2022.
