Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:

  1. On Tuesday, The Anchorage Assembly heard the fifth night of public testimony on a proposed mask ordinance. Dozens of people lined up to testify in person about a mandate that would require people in Anchorage to wear masks indoors in public spaces. The Assembly did not vote and a special meeting is set for today at 5 p.m. to continue testimony and debate on the ordinance. (Anchorage Daily News)
  2. Members of the Anchorage Assembly and the administration of Mayor Dave Bronson are rolling out a new compromise plan to tackle homelessness in Anchorage. The plan would create multiple, smaller shelter and housing options targeted to subsets of the population of unhoused people. Many details are undecided, including an exact timeline for when each element would be built, exact sites, and how the projects would be funded. (Anchorage Daily News)
  3. With an increase in rude and violent behavior from students in Anchorage schools, Superintendent Deena Bishop is asking parents to address the issue with their children. (KFQD)
  4. Anchorage's multi-million-dollar testing and vaccination contracts are in limbo as Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson’s administration considers its options. (Alaska Public Media News)
  5. The Municipality of Anchorage, in partnership with WEKA Medical, will be setting up a new COVID-19 Treatment Center at the former Golden Lion Hotel, which will provide vaccinations, testing, and monoclonal antibody treatments. (Anchorage Press)
