1,559 New Coronavirus Cases, 23 New Deaths Reported In Arizona

ARIZONA — Daily confirmed coronavirus cases remain in the thousands in Arizona, but recent totals came in lower than they had for a full week.

The Arizona Department of Health reported 1,559 new cases out of 8,477 new tests given and 23 new deaths in the state on Monday. It was the lowest daily case count the state had reported since July 13.

Still, the state has not gone a day reporting less than 1,000 new cases since June 29. The July 20 tally is the highest total reported on a Monday since the June date, however.

Maricopa County, with the state's largest population, remains the highest for case count numbers, totaling 96,711 total since the pandemic began. Twelve of the 23 new deaths reported in the state Monday were from Maricopa County, according to the county's public health department.

But in rates per 100,000 people, the highest rate in Arizona is found in Navajo County: 4,269 for every 100,000.

More than 13,000 of the cases reported statewide have been confirmed in the Tucson area, according to an Arizona Republic report. The age group with the most reported positive cases in Pima County is people between 20 and 44 years old.
