Livestream: Arizonans Speak At 2020 DNC

ARIZONA — The Democratic National Convention continues through Thursday in Milwaukee, and several Arizona residents will be speaking out in support of former President Joe Biden in the coming days.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the convention is being held remotely remotely through pre-taped segments and speeches. Other speakers include former First Lady Michelle Obama, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, among many others.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez will appear in a pre-taped segment Tuesday night, the second day of the convention. The Navajo Nation, which includes parts of Arizona, was devastated by the coronavirus and continues to struggle as the pandemic continues.

Wednesday night will include a speech from former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who became a fierce gun control advocate after she was shot while meeting with Tucson constituents in 2011. Her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, is currently running for the U.S. Senate. He will face incumbent Republican Sen. Martha McSally in November.

The last Arizonan to speak will be Jonathan Jeans, a Sedona resident who has said his life was saved by the Affordable Care Act. Jeans was a longtime Republican until he was diagnosed with cancer. He will speak on Thursday, the last day of the convention.

"Because of the Affordable Care Act, Jeff was able to get covered even though he had a preexisting condition," according to a DNC news release. "Jeff received his cancer treatments, and they saved his life. He’s now a supporter of the Affordable Care Act—and Joe Biden."

Phoenix native Kristin Urquiza previously spoke out Monday night after losing her father to the coronavirus. The obituary she penned, in which she blamed Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and President Donald Trump's leadership for her father's death, subsequently went viral.
