Here are the top three stories in Bentonville today:

  1. The Benton County Finance Committee met to discuss the county's necessary jail expansion. The justices of the peace toured the jail this month to find cramped areas with inmates lacking proper beds. The current facility has 650 beds but averages more than 700 detainees at a time. The county's voters will ultimately decide on a jail expansion. (NWAOnline)
  2. A Bentonville teacher has been awarded the prestigious Arkansas Milkin Educator Award. Kamisha Burlingame of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School has been given the award and the $25,000 cash prize. She was awarded during a special all-school assembly. Burlingame is the first educator from the district to win the coveted award. (talkbusiness.net)
  3. The Bentonville City Council approved a new trail and the expansion of an existing city park on Tuesday night. The approval was given through a unanimous vote. The McKissic Creek Trail will eventually create a trail loop around the city. Phillips Park's design will be reconfigured and sports fields will be added. (Arkansas Online)
