14 Kids Hospitalized After SUV Crashes Into California Preschool
An SUV smashed into a preschool Thursday in northern California. Fourteen children were hurt, police say.

ANDERSON, CA — Fourteen children were hospitalized after an SUV plowed through the wall of a day care and preschool facility in northern California.
Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called for a crash into a building near Balls Ferry Road and Martha Street in Anderson, the city's police department said in a Facebook post. Police officers, firefighters and medical personnel raced to the school, arriving within two minutes to a blue Suzuki SUV inside the building and splintered wood strewn across the ground.
Nineteen children were in the building at the time, as well as two adults. Officers assessed the children's injuries and escorted them to safety.

Authorities declared the crash a mass casualty incident due to the potential number of injuries, and additional law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel rushed to the facility to help. Ambulances rushed 14 children to local hospitals with varying severity of injures. Most were hospitalized as a precaution. No deaths were reported and all children were expected to survive.
The driver was identified only as an Anderson female. Police determined she was not driving impaired at the time of the evaluation. The driver was cooperative and released after giving investigators a statement.
