Retailer To Close All 138 CA Locations; 1,600 Jobs Lost
The last of the retailer's 138 California locations are closing, and hundreds of employees were told Friday was their last day.
CALIFORNIA — Advance Auto Parts plans to finish the process of closing all 138 of its California stores and distribution centers by the end of March as part of a restructuring process that will lead to the loss of over 1,600 jobs statewide, according to company executives.
According to the WARN noticed filed with the state, most employees are being let go over the next few days.
The auto parts retailer, which had around 5,000 stores as of last year, began liquidating inventory in November at 500 corporate stores, 200 independently owned locations and four distribution centers nationwide, executives said during the company's Q4 earnings call last week.

"In January, we began the physical closure of stores and expect the closures to be fully complete by the end of March, ahead of our original mid-2025 timeline," CEO Shane O'Kelly said on the call.
But according to filings with state labor officials, the 138 California store closures are expected to be wrapped up by this weekend.

Founded in 1932, the chain over the last year has been engaged in a turnaround plan in an effort to return to profitability and reverse sliding sales, CNN reported.
The plan calls for the company to completely shut down its operations in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona.
