LA MESA, CA — Almost two dozen more Red Lobster restaurants, including one in California, will close in the coming days as part of the company's ongoing bankruptcy dealings, according to a report from CNN.

The restaurant chain abruptly closed more than 50 restaurants after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May to recoup millions of dollars in losses as a result of its "Ultimate Endless Shrimp" promotion.

The deal last year was intended as a limited-time offer but brought in enough new customers that the chain added it to its permanent menu in June 2023. Customers gobbled it up, and the chain reported fourth-quarter 2023 losses of $12.5 million, Patch reported.

In California, the additional Red Lobster restaurant slated to close is at 8703 Murray Drive in La Mesa.

Once bankruptcy proceedings end, about 500 Red Lobster locations, down from around 650, will remain, according to CNN. The restaurant company said the remaining outposts will remain open and continue operating as usual during the bankruptcy process.
