Bear Destroys CA Family's SUV, Gets Trapped Inside Searching For Snack

Amanda Wells was awoken by a honking horn, according to Action News Now, which reported her husband shot a window so the bear could escape.

BUTTE COUNTY, CA — A Northern California family recently experienced a frightening visit from a late-night burglar — a bear in search of a snack, according to reports.

The break-in occurred the night of May 1, according to Amanda Wells, who wrote in a GoFundMe that the bear got locked inside, completely destroying the interior of the vehicle.

“Funds had been pretty tight so we weren't able to make our insurance payment and it got canceled so we unfortunately have no way to get reimbursement for the totaled car,” she wrote in the fundraiser.

Wells was awoken around 11:30 p.m. by a car horn outside her Forest Ranch home, Action News Now reported, adding the bear was apparently attracted to the 2010 Subaru Forester by the smell of Goldfish crackers.

After nearly an hour passed and the animal was still trapped inside, Wells’ husband, Geno Wells, shot out the SUV’s window, allowing the bear to exit safely, according to the outlet.
