CA 7-Eleven Store Blasts Classical Music To Deter Homeless

The owner of the franchise in Modesto said his customers now feel safe.

MODESTO, CA -- Classical music is reportedly being used to deter homeless people from lingering outside 7-Eleven stores in Modesto, Calif. The Sacramento Bee reported owner Sukhi Sandhu said his customers now feel safe coming into his stores in the region.

The Bee reported the 7-Eleven stores blast "symphonies and occasional operas over outdoor speakers."

The Bee wrote, "The classical music is part of a 7-Eleven program that encourages non-confrontational methods to reduce loitering, Sandhu said. It eliminates any risks faced by clerks when asking panhandlers to leave, he said."
