Girl, 4, Killed By Her Family's Pit Bull

The little girl had just come inside from a swim when the fatal attack occurred, according to police.

CENTRAL VALLEY, CA — A California family is mourning the death of their four-year-old daughter, who was attacked by the family's pit bull on Wednesday.

The attack happened at 8 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 2300 block of West Monte Vista in the Central Valley community of Visalia.

"The 4-year-old girl had just finished swimming and was inside the home when the incident occurred," the Visalia Police Department said in a written statement. "Despite immediate medical attention and being transported to the hospital, she sadly passed away from her injuries."

It wasn't immediately clear if the family surrendered the pit bull to authorities or if it would be euthanized. California does not have a statewide ban on pit bulls.

"An investigation by Violent Crimes Detectives revealed no signs of neglect or criminal wrongdoing," the Visalia Police Department added. "This heart-wrenching event is a tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time."

A GofundMe has been established for the family to help pay funeral costs for the child identified as "Princess Zoey."
