Congregation Or Ami and the Or Ami Center for Jewish Parenting Presents 'A Baby is Born. Mazel Tov! Now What?'

Rabbi Julia Weisz, who oversees all the learning programs at Congregation Or Ami in Calabasas, will begin a three session series of workshops on “Seasons of Living.”

The first session on Birth, titled “A Baby is Born. Mazel Tov! Now What” will be held on Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. at Congregation Or Ami, 26115 Mureau Rd., Ste. B, Calabasas. Reservations requested. RSVP to Karen Moore, karen@orami.org or 818-880-4880

Jews commemorate life cycles and transitions in their lives by honoring the past, present and future. The life cycle rituals emphasize the importance of transitions – secular and sacred, old and new, celebration or mourning.  Judaism helps people find meaning in their personal and spiritual lives by marking important life cycles with ritual.

Participants will learn about Jewish rituals surrounding birth, including the ancient and contemporary history and practices of brit milah (circumcision) and brit bat (baby naming).

“Creating a Jewish home and life becomes that much easier and natural when the adult(s) in the family understand the values and rituals of Jewish tradition. Biological and adoptive parents, grandparents, future parents, and all those interested in learning more about Jewish tradition will be fascinated by how this ancient tradition brings meaning to new life,” said Rabbi Julia Weisz.
