Celeb Basketball Tourney on Aug. 18

Brian McKnight and some NBA and NFL stars will be playing at the local community center to benefit a nonprofit for families.

 

Platinum recording artist Brian McKnight will lead one of the teams playing in the Parents of Children With All Special Needs (POCWASN) "Hooping for Parents" event on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the

McKnight and a star studded line-up will kick off the celebrity basketball fundraiser with a meet-and-greet autograph session for all ticket holders prior to the start of the game.

"It is so meaningful to have the players support our organizations through their participation", said Syrenthia Farris, president of POCWASN. "Fans can come out to not only cheer on their favorite, but meet the players and other celebrities in person."

In addition to McKnight, Michael Blanks of Body Theory will be on the floor coaching his team to success. Players include some of the NBA's and NFL's best like Bryon Russell, who has been active launching his own foundation for mentoring kids & loves to support other worthy causes like POCWASN, Terrance Lucas, Joe Smith, Byron Chamberlain, actress Kelly Monaco and more. POCWASN provides a support system to family members of individuals with disabilities. 

"Our goal is to provide services to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul of the families/caregivers who dedicate themselves to the service of caring for persons with special needs" Farris continued. 

Proceeds will also benefit the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center to help support the programs and services offered to the communities.

"We are very excited to partner with POCWASN to host this special event.  It will be quite an exciting day!" said Annemarie Flaherty, executive director of the community center. 

Doors will open at 2 pm starting with the autograph session and the game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. DJ Stylus will provide music and former NFL defensive back Chris "Peto" Hayes will emcee. 

Attendees can make a donation and have the chance to win a variety of prizes throughout the game including NBA star Ray Allen signed jerseys, a Penny Hardaway signed basketball, MR2 Head Phones, a private training session and Drenched classes at Michael Blanks' Body Theory and more. Chris Mills, Mitch Richmond, Ray Allen and Mohamed Alrafi are sponsoring the event.

Tickets are limited and available for purchase at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center at 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas.
