City Council Approves Old Agoura Townhome Project

The Agoura Hills City Council has approved an 18-unit townhome to be built on a 1-acre parcel near Old Agoura.

The multifamily complex will consist of eight buildings on a lot located at the southeast corner of Chesebro and Palo Comado Canyon roads.

A general plan amendment to change the land-use designation of the property from commercial/ retail to high-density residential was approved in a 4-1 vote, reports the The Acorn. Councilmember Illece Buckley Weber voted against the project, said the report.

Project developer Aitan Hillel received approval from the city to build two retaining walls taller than 6 feet, said the newspaper. Four oak trees will be removed to make room for the project, which could encroach upon six more oaks in a protected zone, and City Council members also allowed Hillel to include more open space within the complex without adding additional amenities, said the report.

According to The Acorn, Hillel described the project as a “garden community” for people who can’t afford a singlefamily home. The project will include barbecue areas, a Jacuzzi and sitting areas with trellises, said the newspaper.
