The origins of Halloween according to Wikipedia: "Historian Nicholas Rogers, exploring the origins of Halloween, notes that while "some folklorists have detected its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, it is more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain, whose original spelling was Samuin (pronounced sow-an or sow-in)." The name of the festival historically kept by the Gaels and Celts in the British Isles is derived from Old Irish and means roughly "summer's end...The Irish myths which mention Samhain were written in the 10th and 11th centuries by Christian monks. This is around 200 years after the Catholic church inaugurated All Saints Day and at least 400 years after Ireland became Christian.

Take your little one to this fun class at the Agoura Hills Library at 11 a.m. for stories, music, finger plays and art activities to promote early learning.

4. Oak Park Indoor Halloween Carnival

Oak Park's 7th Annual Indoor Halloween Carnival will take place at Oak Park Community Center, 1000 Kanan Road, from 5:30-8 p.m. Admission is $2 for 2 and up and $1 for under age 2. Parents are free when accompanied by children.

5. Trick or Treating at the Oaks Mall

Numerous retailers will hand out candy or favors to children in costumes from 5-7 p.m., so be sure to bring your own trick-or-treat bag. The Oaks Mall is located at 350 West Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks.
