Southern California Edison Offers Additional Information on Possible Power Outages for Agoura Hills

Routine repair work this week may temporarily interrupt service in certain areas.

Update: Agoura Hills Patch received several emails from readers who are concerned about power outages during the heatwave. We received the following note from Vanessa McGrady, a SCE spokesperson:

SCE does not have a company policy regarding weather-related events and outage rescheduling. We leave the decision-making to cancel or continue with a planned outage to local district management because:

1) they know their local customers' needs the best
2) they have detailed knowledge of the priority and criticality of the planned work
3) they have the knowledge of the scheduling details and extent of the planned outage.

A blanket weather/outage rescheduling policy statement would not provide the flexibility required to operate the electric system in a safe, reliable and cost efficient manner. However, during periods of extreme weather, management conversations do occur that discuss issues of planned outages and their affect on our customers. SCE always attempts to balance the needs/impacts of outages on our customers with system reliability, cost and especially safety.

Customers can look here for outage information: www.sce.com/outage (or from their mobile device, m.sce.com/outage) or call (888) 759-6056

More about planned outages:

Customers are notified at least three days in advance of a planned outage via a brightly colored postcard. SCE takes additional steps to contact medically sensitive customers who rely on electric devices to maintain their health.

As we upgrade our infrastructure with smarter technologies and perform important maintenance, sometimes it’s necessary to turn off the power. This is an important safety measure that protects our crews. We are also on a schedule to maintain equipment. If we fail to properly maintain our system, we could be out of compliance with California Public Utilities Commission requirements and possibly lead to unsafe situations.
