2 Wounded In Oakland Freeway Shooting

OAKLAND, CA — Two people were wounded over the weekend in a Bay Area freeway shooting, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at 2:11 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Interstate 580 near Seminary Avenue in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division.

"As officers were responding to the scene, a victim of the shooting called 911 and reported that he and a female passenger were struck by gunfire," the CHP said in a news release. "The victim drove himself and the injured passenger to a San Leandro hospital to seek treatment."

The man suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his abdomen, while the woman suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to her head, according to the CHP. She was taken to a local trauma center for treatment.

Freeway lanes were shut down for more than seven hours while officers investigated the shooting, the CHP said. All eastbound I-580 lanes were closed at Seminary Avenue at 3:11 p.m. Lanes were reopened at about 10:15 p.m.
