8 Truckloads Of Stolen Merchandise Recovered By Police

The Bay Area Organized Retail Theft operation also netted stolen vehicles and more than $10,000 in cash.

ALAMEDA, CA — The Alameda Police Department recovered approximately $75,000 worth of stolen property from an organized retail theft operation, the department reports. The haul included eight truckloads of stolen merchandise, multiple stolen vehicles, and more than $10,000 in cash. It all started with a single theft at South Shore Shopping Center.

Investigators looking into the Feb. 9 theft at Old Navy identified a pattern in similar cases, in which organized groups enter a business and systematically remove large quantities of merchandise.

Alameda Police collaborated with Old Navy’s loss prevention team and the California Highway Patrol’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force. Their goal was two-fold — to identify the criminals entering the stores along with those receiving the stolen merchandise.

“While we celebrate this significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to address organized retail theft, we recognize our work is far from over,” said Investigations Lt. Brian Foster. “We remain committed to working closely with our community partners to ensure safe shopping experiences and help support the success of our local businesses.”

Other retailers and independent witnesses were also interviewed in the investigation. The loss prevention teams at Kohl’s, LensCrafters, Ross, TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, Walgreens, Carter’s, Walmart, Safeway, and Nordstrom all assisted the probe.

The investigation remains ongoing and Alameda Police ask residents and businesses to report any suspicious activity immediately. The non-emergency phone number is 510-337-8340. For a crime in progress, call 911.
