Albany Subaru Changes Hands After 3 Decades Of Same Ownership
John Nakamura, who has owned the dealership since it opened in 1992, and his partner sold it to Victory Automotive Group this month.

ALBANY, CA — Albany Subaru is under new ownership, after owner John Nakamura sold it to Jeffrey Cappo of Victory Automotive Group this month.
Nakamura has been president and general manager of Albany Subaru since it opened in 1992. Over three decades, he and his partner, Albany Subaru CFO Laurie Bush, cemented their presence in the Albany community through civic contributions to local charities and schools, officials said in a news release.
The dealership grew under Nakamura and Bush as well, officials said — for the last three years, it has ranked in the top 20 percent in sales volume growth in the San Francisco region.

"Our dealership was and always is our baby. To say that we were a picky seller is an understatement," Nakamura said in a statement. "There were so many qualitative elements to our deal, such as our valued employees, our relationships with our business partners, and the very important element of winning on both sides of the table for both buyer and seller."
Though it's under new ownership, the dealer will remain at its current location — 718 San Pablo Avenue, Albany.

The deal between Nakamura and Cappo was brokered by dealership brokerage firm Performance Brokerage Services. Moshe Stopnitzky, its president, said the sale was an "exceptional project."
"Albany Subaru is a special dealership, owned and managed by very special people," Stopnitzky said. "The buyer will benefit from a tremendous goodwill built over nearly 3 decades by John Nakamura and Laurie Bush."
