Back-to-School Packets Go Green in Albany – Online Replaces Paper
The Albany school district is reducing its carbon footprint this fall by putting back-to-school packets online and requiring only one signed form. Those who don't want the digital option can still pick up printed packets in school offices.

Remember that thick back-to-school packet your students lugs home at the beginning of school every year and the several forms you have to sign?
You won't be finding them in your kids' backpacks this year. The Albany Unified School District "goes green" for the 2013-14 school year this fall with online registration packets, the district announced. This also means only one form to sign and return.
"Parents can log into existing Parent Portal accounts to access the Back to School information and instructions electronically," says the notice on the district website.
"Parents can visit the school site if you do not have the information necessary to log into the Parent Portal. With the electronic option, only one “Acknowledgment Form” is required to be printed, signed, and returned to the school."
The packets will be accessible online by Friday, Aug. 16, the district said.
Those who prefer not to use the digital option can pick up a printed packet at school offices, the district said.
