Albany City Manager Bids Fond Farewell to Residents Who 'Care'

Today (Aug. 23) is the last day at work for Albany City Manager Beth Pollard, and it's also the day that the latest Albany Community eNewsletter was published with her farewell message thanking the residents for their caring attitude.

Pollard, who's retiring after 12 years in the position, is being honored with a celebration at the Albany Community Center on Aug. 29, which the City Council has declared "Beth Pollard Day."

Here is Pollard's farewell message from the Community eNewsletter:

Farewell from City Manager Beth Pollard

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your City Manager these past 12 years. What attracted me to Albany remains one of its very important features: People in Albany Care. You care enough to join your neighbors at National Night Out and other block parties; to volunteer at the Senior Center, on City advisory bodies, or in non-profits; and to vote in high numbers and be supportive of City services and capital projects.

Together we have built bike paths, parks, public buildings, sewers, and streets; we have weathered through a great recession; and we have celebrated the Centennial of the City’s founding by dining together on Solano Avenue – whose success has made it a bi-annual not-to-miss community event. And we have hired caring, talented, and dedicated staff whose creativity, flexibility and public spirit have kept City services strong in tight economic times. They are a hard group to leave!

With the City Council’s foresight and commitment to its strategic goals, the City is poised for accom- plishing much and improving this Urban Village by the Bay in amazing ways. I know Pat O’Keeffe will do a great job as Interim City Manager, and that Albany will attract a talented new City Manager.

I appreciate my time in being part of the City of Albany, and wish you well.
