Heard in Albany: Lessons from Dad in 1 Sentence
One thing many people thank Dad for on Father's Day is what he taught us. We asked a few random people in Albany, including Woody Guthrie's son, to tell us – in one sentence – what their fathers taught them. We got a wide range of paternal advice.
In honor of Father's Day on June 16, a Patch editor wandered around Albany asking people at random if they'd be willing to answer one question:
"Can you tell me in one sentence what your father taught you?"
We asked people on the sidewalk and in shops and got a lot of good advice, including a lesson learned by Joady Guthrie from his famous father, the legendary songwriter/folk singer Woody Guthrie.
The attached short video records the answers of nine people, whose lessons from Dad included:
- Be careful
- Economics
- Use your quick mind in a patient way
- How to skateboard
- Associate with someone who is learned
- Be responsible
- Be tough and be strong and be the best that you can be
- Do your best and work hard
- Take it easy, but take it
