Little Lost Calf Toy Seeks Owner

Somewhere there may be a child who's missing a stuffed toy calf found recently on Evelyn Avenue in Albany. The family that's keeping the toy posted flyers on telephone poles with a photo and a title saying, "Everybody, is this yours?"

Maybe you've seen them recently – flyers on telephone poles in Albany with a photo of a found calf toy under the title, ""Everybody, is this yours?"

If you're adult, you may have to bend down to see them since many are at kids' eye level.

The poster title was created by a three-year-old girl in the Albany family that's keeping the stuffed toy while the owner is sought.

The little calf was found in the 700 block of Evelyn Avenue about two weeks ago by a resident who put in on a fence for a few days and then gave it to the family next door for their small daughters to have.

The father of the family, who asked not to be identified by name, told Patch, "I told them we would keep it if no one claimed it in a couple of days. No one did."

"But, my wife said, 'Someone must really be missing it,' so I decided to make it a project," the father said via email. "We made a poster that our girls helped write, and post around the neighborhood.  I asked, 'What should we say?' and one of them said, 'Everybody, is this yours?' And that’s what I put on the poster.  We posted it around the neighborhood, and waited a week."

The family had planned to take the flyers down this weekend, but changed their minds after Patch happened to call on Saturday asking if the owner had contacted them and, if not, whether they would like it posted on Albany Patch.

"Now we have agreed with the girls that the calf can live with us until the owner calls," the father said. "The girls gave it a bath, let her dry out, and are keeping her for the owner."

The parents have two goals for the project, the father said.

"First, is to find the calf’s owner," he said. "Second, it is a learning experience for our kids. Making the poster and talking about it helps them think about how someone else might feel about this adorable, soft toy. And, it’s also a lesson about literacy, how their words can be shared with others and make a difference."
