New 10K Run/Walk Event Coming to East Bay

A new running/walking event is coming to the East Bay that will benefit the East Bay Humane Society and feature a 10-kilometer course that begins and ends at Golden Gate Fields on the Albany-Berkeley border.

Titled "Let’s Go 510! The East Bay’s 10k," the Oct. 19 event will go along the East Bay shoreline and through the Berkeley Marina before heading back to the racetrack.

It is intended be the third leg in an annual three-race series, "Run the Bay Challenge," according to the organizers, Represent Running and Brazen Racing. The other two are the 8-kilometer "San Jose 408K," which was held for the second year in March, and the "415Mile and Miracle Mile" in San Rafael, which was held for the first time on July 21.

The "Let's Go 510" event begins at 10:30 and finishes on the racetrack. Participants are invited to stay (in the stands) for the horse races that begin at 1 p.m.

There will be short races for kids after the 10K event, one of about 100 yards for kids 5 and under, and one for ages 6-12 of one kilometer. Parents are welcome to run with the kids.

Another new East Bay race that finishes at Golden Gate Fields will be inaugurated later this fall, the "Berkeley Half Marathon" on Nov. 24, a 13.1-mile course that begins at Civic Center Park in Berkeley and heads to the UC Berkeley campus before going down University Avenue and looping around the Berkeley Marina and finishing at the racetrack.
