Police Calls: Arrests, Battery, Vandalism, $9,000 Bad Check

The Albany police log for July 8-9 includes two arrests at Target, battery by a mother-in-law, a pedestrian injured by a vehicle, a window smashed at Albany Cinema, a tire punctured at Albany Bulb and a boat blocking the view of oncoming traffic.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, July 8

Albany Cinema window smashed – At 2:54 p.m., police received a report of a window being smashed the previous evening at Albany Cinema on Solano. It was logged as a burglary, though nothing was taken. Disposition: Case report taken.

Identity theft
– A person in the lobby at 5:40 p.m. reported a case of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Boat blocking view
 At 5:59 p.m., police received a complaint of a large boat on a trailer not hooked up to a vehicle and blocking the view of oncoming traffic at Dartmouth and Masonic. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto-vs.-ped injury accident
–  At 9:20 p.m., police received a report of an injury accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle at Marin and Curtis. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, July 9

Auto burglary
– At 11:35 a.m., police received a report of an auto burglary on Pomona. The reporting always locks the car, and the means of entry were not known. Disposition: Case report taken.

Transient on steps
– At 12:54 p.m., a person in the lobby reported that a male transient in his 60s with gray hair and wearing an older newspaper-type apron was sitting on her front steps. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Injury accident –  At 1:04 p.m., police received a report of an injury accident in which the reporting party was rear-ended at Buchanan and Taylor. Disposition: Case report taken.

$9,000 bad check
– At 3:33 p.m., police received a report that someone passed a fraudulent check for $9,000 at Galvin Appliance on San Pablo a week ago for merchandise that was never picked up. Disposition: Case report taken.

Fraud use of credit card
– At 3:33 p.m., police received a call from an employee of Golden Poppy Florists on Solano that a customer in the shop was complaining of a charge that appeared on his credit card from the business. The employee told the customer, who was still on the scene, that she didn't charge his credit card. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Battery by mother-in-law
– At 3:56 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported that she had just been battered by her mother-in-law on Pomona. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tire punctured at Bulb
– At 4:29 p.m., police logged a report of a vehicle's tires being slashed during work at Albany Bulb. Disposition: Case report taken. (Editor's note: the person who made the report told Patch that the vehicle belongs to the company that he works for and that the company was hired by the the Albany Fire Department to cut back greenery at the Bulb. He said one tire had been punctured while he working.) 

Receiving stolen property, identity theft, outstanding warrant arrest – At 9:20 p.m., police arrested a Richmond female at Target on an outstanding warrant and suspicion of receiving stolen property and identity theft. The arrest followed a call at 8:49 p.m. of a woman in a Mickey Mouse shirt using someone else's ID at Target.

Trespassing, drug paraphernalia arrest – At 10:39 p.m., police arrested a transient man who is a painter at Target on suspicion of trespassing and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest followed 10:33 call saying that the suspect was in Target and had been told not to return to the store.
