Police Calls: Baby Formula Shoplifting Arrests, Cross Words in a Crosswalk

The Albany police log for July 2-3 includes two women arrested for allegedly stealing baby formula from Safeway, two stolen cars, a motorist yelling at a bicyclist for walking her bike across Marin and a young male's plea for help for a hummingbird.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Tuesday, July 2

Auto theft
 – At 2:14 p.m., police received a report of vehicle stolen between 8:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. from the rear lot at Victory Apartments on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Impersonating an officer – At 4:06 p.m., a person reported fraudulent calls from a subject impersonating police officer from Georgia. The reporting party called the police department in Columbus, GA, but they would not help him. Disposition: Log note only.

Cross words in a crosswalk – At 6:09 p.m., police received a report from a bicyclist saying a man in his 60s driving a black Lexus with two passengers east on Marin at Cornell had stopped and blocked the crosswalk as she was walking her bike across the street. The driver yelled at her from his vehicle for walking her bike and gave her hard time as she crossed. The reporting party was very upset. The plate she gave was incorrect. She did not want to be contacted by police.  

Suspicious AT&T workers – A person in the 700 block of Adams reported to police at 7:08 p.m. that AT&T workers had asked the reporting party's dog walker to remove the dogs from the backyard and to let them into the backyard. The dog walker refused. The reporting party does not have AT&T and neither do her neighbors. She wanted to advise police of the incident but didn't want a report. Disposition: Log note only.

Identity theft – At 8 p.m., a Kains resident in the police lobby reported identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Landlord dispute – At 8:32 p.m., a tenant on Cornell told police he believes that his landlord is currently trespassing on his property. The reporting party is in his car and requests that police be present on stand-by when he confronts his landlord. Disposition: Log note only.
Wednesday, July 3

Auto theft
– Police received a report at 6:24 a.m. of an auto stolen during the night on Ordway. Disposition: Case report taken.

Injured hummingbird
– At young male on Evelyn in Berkeley contacted police at 10:23 a.m. requesting transport to an animal hospital in Berkeley for an injured hummingbird. He was transferred to Berkeley Animal Control.

Credit card fraud
– At 3:15 p.m. police received a report of a $1,500 loss due to fraudulent use of a credit card. Disposition: Case report taken.

Graffiti on business 
– A the garage door, side door and telephone switch box on a business on Solano was tagged at 10:24 a.m. The reporting party has video.  Disposition: Case report taken.

Purse snatch
– At 9:26 p.m., a person reported that 20 minutes earlier her purse was taken by a bald black man in a white shirt on San Pablo. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

DUI arrest
 – Police arrested a Berkeley male at Peralta and Francis on suspicion of driving under the influence. The arrest followed an officer stop at 10:39 p.m.

Commercial burglary arrests – Police arrested an Oakland female and a San Francisco female at Marin and Neilson on suspicion of commercial burglary. The arrests followed an 11:35 p.m. report of shoplifted baby formula at Safeway and a description of the suspects' vehicle.
