Police Calls: Classroom iPads Stolen, Auto Burglar Witnessed, Wallet Finder Won't Return It
The Albany police logs for Sept. 11-12 include iPads stolen from a classroom, a witness report of a fleeing auto burglar, fire extinguishers broken by teens, a barking dog and a person who found a wallet missing since 2007 and refuses to return it.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.
Wednesday, Sept. 11
iPads stolen from classroom – At 10:01 a.m., police received a report of all the iPads missing from classroom #1 on Jackson. The classroom was found open. It occurred sometime overnight. Disposition: Case report taken. (Editor's note: Ocean View Elementary School is located on Jackson.)
Auto burglary – At 10:21 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle broken into sometime last night on Key Route. Disposition: Case report taken.
Trouble with teen at MetroPCS – At 1:59 p.m., police received a report of a 19-year-old male who was asked to leave MetroPCS on San Pablo and who still outside looking in. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.
Finder of wallet missing 6 years refuses to return it – At 2:10 p.m., a resident on Key Route reported receiving a call from a male who said he found the resident's wallet in his vehicle. The wallet, containing credit cards and Social Security number, was stolen in 2007 in Berkeley. The person who found the wallet refuses to send it back, saying he doesn't want to be implicated in the theft. Disposition: Case report taken.
Lost vehicle – At 2:25 p.m., police received a report of a lost vehicle near Solano Grill. Disposition: Log note only.
Person living in RV on Key Route – At 6:55 p.m., police received a report of some living inside an RV parked on Key Route. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.
Bearded man yelling as passers-by – At 11:30 p.m., police received a report of a man with a beard and long blond hair sitting in front of the Cape Cod restaurant on Solano and yelling at people as they walk by. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.
Thursday, Sept. 12
Male passed out in restaurant doorway– At 12:34 a.m., police received a report of a male passed out in the doorway of Cugini restaurant on Solano. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.
DVDs stolen at Target – At 10:49 a.m., police received a report of DVDs stolen at Target. The theft was witnessed by security. Disposition: Case report taken.
FasTrak stolen from vehicle – At 3:10 p.m., police received a report of a FasTrak taken from a vehicle sometime overnight on Jackson. The reporting party requests a report for a replacement. Disposition: Case report taken.
Fire extinguishers broken by teens – At 5:38 p.m., police received a report that six teenagers running in the hallway on Pierce broke fire extinguishers on the 11th floor. The reporting party knows which unit one of them lives in. Disposition: Case report taken.
Auto burglary – At 7:37 p.m., police received a report of an auto burglary at the dead end of Buchanan. A window was smashed with unknown loss. Miscellaneous items were inside. Disposition: Case report taken.
Dog barking all day – At 7:40 p.m., police received a report of a dog constantly barking all day on San Carlos. It's an ongoing issue. The reporting party thinks the owners are home but are not being responsive. Disposition: Log note only.
Auto burglary, suspect seen – At 8:04 p.m., police received a report of an auto burglary via a smashed window five minutes earlier at Buchanan and Cerrito. The burglar is black male in his 20s wearing a baseball cap, jacket and loose-fitting jeans, last seen going westbound on foot to a waiting vehicle of unknown description that departed toward the freeway. The victim vehicle was a white Toyota Corolla facing eastbound near the school playground. Disposition: Case report taken.
Non-injury accident – At 8:51 p.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving a minivan taxi and a parked vehicle on Masonic. The driver is out of the vehicle and appears to be okay. Disposition: Case report taken.
