Police Calls: Kick-in Home Burglary, Pot at High School, Large Money Theft at Middle School,

The Albany police logs for Sept. 25-26 include a kick-in burglary on Washington, a stoned student with pot at Albany High, a student suspected of taking a large amount of money at Albany Middle School and car damage from kids throwing rocks.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, Sept. 25

School district van window broken – At 8:37 a.m., police received a vandalism report of a driver's side window being broken on an Albany Unified School District van. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Car parked across sidewalk cited – At 9:41 a.m., police received a complaint of an ongoing issue of a car parked across a sidewalk at Evelyn and Brighton. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – citation issued.

Large amount of money stolen at Middle School – At 12:04 p.m., police received a report that a large amount of money was stolen the day before at Albany Middle School and that now the person who may be responsible and a witness are in the office. Disposition: Case report taken.

High School journalist seeks Albany Bulb info – At 1:27 p.m., police logged a report of an Albany High School student seeking information about Albany Bulb for a high school journalism article. Disposition: Log note only.

Hertz vehicle theft – At 1:57 p.m. police received a request for a report on an unreturned vehicle at Hertz on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Man taking recycling – At 2:34 p.m., police received a report of a man with a large black plastic bag going through recycling bins on Cerrito. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Man sleeping in front of office for past week – At 2:42 p.m., police received a report of a man in his late 60s sleeping in front of Albany Physical Therapy on San Pablo for the past week. Today he is in front of the laundromat. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Kids throwing rocks damage car – At 2:59 p.m., police received a report of 2-3 juveniles 10-11 years old throwing rocks at the reporting party's car at Marin and San Pablo, causing damage to the right side of the vehicle. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Man talks to garbage can and screams – At 3:19 p.m., police logged a report of a man in a blue hoodie talking to a garbage can at the Arco Am/Pm who last seen crossing Marin screaming. Disposition: Log note only.

Car, cell phone taken in robbery, suspects appear to be in Albany – At 9:10 p.m., police received a call from a person whose mother was the victim of cell phone and car robbery in Oakland today. The phone locator shows the phone to be within 433 yards of Cornell and Garfield and was initially shown to be on Adams and Clay. The responsibles are two males, 18-19 years old. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided. 

Camera lost at Memorial Park – At 9:20 p.m., police received a report of Nikon D3200 camera with extra lens, valued at $3,000-$4,000, left at Memorial Park. The reporting party returned to the park, and it wasn't there. Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 11:01 p.m., police logged a report of a non-injury accident at Marin and San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Thursday, Sept. 26

Auto burglary – At 8:33 a.m., police received a report of burglary of a locked vehicle between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. in the 700 block of Jackson. Taken were the owner's manual, a flashlight, clipboard and registration papers. The reporting party didn't want a police report, just a record of the theft. Disposition: Log note only.

Walls of Albany Bulb library knocked down again – At 10:17 a.m., police logged a report that someone had knocked down the walls of the library of at the Albany Bulb again. The report is information only. Disposition: Log note only.

Juvenile pot smokers under BART tracks – At 10:24 a.m., police received a report of two male juveniles and one female juvenile smoking marijuana under the BART tracks next to the basketball courts at Albany Middle School. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Gold chain taken from vehicle – At 12:02 p.m., police received a report that a gold chain was taken from a vehicle while it was being worked on. Disposition: Case report taken.

Identity theft – At 2:39 p.m., an Albany resident reported a case of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Injury accident – At 2:43 p.m., police logged a report of a traffic collision involving vehicles, including a BMW, at Marin and Ramona. Disposition: Case report taken.

High school student caught with pot – At 3:08 p.m., police received a report of a juvenile found with marijuana and the under the influence. The juvenile was in the office and the parents were contacted. The school will take administrative action. Disposition: Case report taken.

Home burglary – At 3:58 p.m., police logged a report of a residential burglary in the 800 block of Washington where the front door appeared to have been kicked in. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 4:40 p.m., police logged a report of a non-injury accident involving a Lexus at San Pablo and Washington. Disposition: Case report taken.
