Police Calls: Youths with Gun, 4 Accidents in 1 Afternoon, Loud Parties

The Albany police logs for Sept. 7-8 include a stolen vehicle, four non-injury accidents in one afternoon, two boys shooting BB guns at Albany Middle School, four youths seen with a gun and a youth stealing alcohol from Safeway.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Saturday, Sept. 7

Vehicle with smashed window – At 12:20 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle on Pierce not known to the complex (no permit) with the passenger window smashed and the driver's side window down and with damage on the right side. Disposition: Case report taken.

Drunk/disorderly and probation violationg arrest
 – At 10:33 a.m., police arrested a 60-year-old transient, whose occupation was listed as an unemployed construction worker, in the 900 block of Jackson on suspicion of violating probation and being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. The arrest followed a 10:24 a.m. "Public Substance Influence" and "Arrest Made" report of an intoxicated subject bothering customers on San Pablo. 

Stolen vehicle – At 11:57 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle that was parked in the 900 block of Stannage being stolen with the past two days. Disposition: Case report taken.

License plate stolen – At 1:35 p.m., police received a report of a rear license plate stolen. Disposition: Case report taken.

Youth takes alcohol at Safeway – At 9:15 p.m., police received a report of a youth about 18 years old stuffing alcohol into a backpack and departing east on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Sunday, Sept. 8

Loud group hanging out – At 2:03 a.m., police received a complaint of a loud group of six people hanging out on Madison. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Loud backyard party, something burning
– At 2:37 a.m., police received a complaint of a loud backyard party with people yelling and the smell of something burning, possibly a bonfire, on Stannage. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Loud backyard party still going on
 At 4:47 a.m, police received another complaint of screaming and yelling and burning things in a backyard party on Stannage. A neighbor asked them to quiet down but they were not cooperative. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Accident
– At 1:03 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle accident, involving a complaint of neck pain and declined medical treatment, that just occurred at Marin and Cornell. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 2:05 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving at 2012 red and while Fiat 500 and a gray Honda Accord at Kains and Garfield. Disposition: Log note only.

Man in vehicle with book not turning pages
– At 2:23 p.m., police received a report of a man reading a book in his vehicle on Carmel next to Memorial Park who never appeared to turn the page during more than an hour. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Non-injury accident at Safeway – At 2:26 p.m., police received a report of a Safeway driver hitting a vehicle in the parking lot at Safeway. Disposition: Log note only.

Woman tries to enter residence – At 3:21 p.m., police received a report of woman who tried to enter a residence on Pomona  and is now sitting on the reporting party's front step. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

4 youths seen with gun
– At 4:06 p.m., police received a report of a male about 16-20 years old showing a silver handgun to three male juveniles who were going west on Port between Ensenada and Tacoma. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Drunk/disorderly, resisiting arrests
 – At 5:06 p.m. and 5:12 p.m. respectively, police arrested two men from Albany, a 37-year-old landscaper and a 44-year-old laborer, at Stannage and Solano on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. The laborer was arrested also on suspicion of resisting a police officer.

2 boys shooting BB guns at Middle School – At 5:20 p.m., police received a report of two boys shooting BB guns at Albany Middle School. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Non-injury vehicle accident – At 5:20 p.m., a person reported seeing one vehicle hit another while trying to park at Solano and San Pablo. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

DUI arrest – At 8:33 p.m., police arrested a 46-year-old Berkeley man at 900 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Large loud party – At 10:39 p.m., police received a report of a large loud party on Carmel. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 11:49 p.m., police arrested a 21-year-old Berkeley man at 863 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.
