They Made It! Spirited Graduation at AHS

Balloons, flowers, cheers and heartfelt applause greeted the Class of 2013 at Albany High School Friday as they filed into the gym for a lively graduation ceremony. A few glimpses of the opening moments can be seen in the attached brief video.

If "Pomp and Circumstance" was ever intended to convey subdued marching formality, that message was not apparent Friday at Albany High School as family and friends broke into exuberant applause and cheers when the Class of 2013 entered the gym in their graduation gowns.

The high energy level was palpable in the filled gym even before the seniors made their entry down the center aisle and settled into a small sea of red and white in front of a stage full of speakers.

Leading off for the faculty was Assistant Principal Susan Charlip, who noted that she will be going out with the Class of 2013. She is retiring after 30 years with the school district.

"The most important lesson for you to take away tonight is to keep pursuing your education," she told the graduates.

The other faculty speaker was science teacher Darren McNally.

The 5 p.m. program also included a number of student speakers, beginning with the class valedictorian Wenye Li, followed by the student body president, Madison Miller.
