Aliso Viejo Star Student Excels In Academics, Music, Athletics
When Joshua isn't perfecting his wicked 3-point shot, he takes time for volunteer work.

ALISO VIEJO, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Connie Shihad who nominated Joshua, an 8th grade student of Aliso Viejo.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Joshua is a star student in many aspects. His character speaks highly of all the things he works to accomplish both at school and outside of school. At school, he has always strived to excel in all his classes especially in Math where he is currently enrolled in an accelerated class. He has been in the President’s Honor Roll throughout his school years and have earned other awards in different subjects and citizenship. Joshua also volunteers both in his community and in school. He has received the Falcon Service Award through his middle school program and has just fulfilled the requirements to earn his third consecutive award. Among his community, Joshua volunteers at his local church’s food drive and occasionally volunteers for Miracles For Kids to benefit critically ill children and their families. Additionally, he has been sharing his music to his senior community since first grade. He does this by participating in small piano recitals through his piano instructor. Joshua began playing the piano in first grade and has been working to fulfill all levels of the piano certification in the state. He has been certified in the first 6 levels and has earned the state seal award for exceptional performance for most of the levels. Joshua also began to play the violin in fourth grade and has auditioned three times for the school district’s Honor Orchestra where he qualified every time. Most recently, he participated in the Honor Orchestra and performed at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, California. While accomplishing his academic and musical goals, Joshua has also been actively playing competitive club basketball since he was six years old. He plays as a shooting/point guard and is depended on by his team for his 3-point shooting ability. He has recently been invited by his club team to play for the upper division 16U team. Joshua is very much looking forward to his all around new adventures when he begins his high school career this fall.
