Reserve Lieutenant Doug Williams and his dog Luna were honored by the Orange County Sheriff's Department for nearly 600 hours of volunteer patrol in Aliso Viejo.Williams joined the department in 1994 and became a narcotic detection K-9 handler in 2009. That's when he began working with his new partner, a Belgian Malinois named Luna. As a reserve unit, Williams and Luna would patrol the city, assisting deputies in the field, answering calls for service, or initiating vehicle stops. They were frequently called up to assist with narcotic searches of vehicles and homes. Over their four years of service, Williams and Luna volunteered nearly 600 hours of their time. They conducted approximately 70 searches locating drugs such as methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. Together they were instrumental in 16 felony arrests.
