Altadena Rare Fruit Grower Featured in L.A. Times

A local member of RIPE Altadena showed the paper an odd citrus fruit called Buddha's hand citron.

An Altadena amateur rare fruit grower was featured in the Los Angeles Times Tuesday for growing Buddha's hand citron, an unusual citrus fruit pictured at right.

Marsha Fowler, the backyard grower, is a member of RIPE Altadena, the produce exchange that meets regularly for amateur produce growers to exchange fruit and vegetables.

According to the Times article, the Buddha's hand citron has "no juice, no pulpy flesh and just a mild-tasting white pith."

Fowler told the Times the fruit pairs well with lavender and basil and can be used in the crust of a cream pie.
