Brandon Jackson Scholarship Basketball Shoot-Out to Take Place June 23
For the second annual year, a youth basketball tournament will be held to raise money for a scholarship honoring Altadena resident Brandon Jackson, who was shot and killed in 2011.

The event will be on June 23 in two locations, La Salle High School and the Victory Park Gym in Pasadena.
Kids from age 7 to 18 can participate in the tournament, which is held to raise money for scholarships for graduating local students.

Team fees are $200, but there is an early registration discount allowing $150 registration. Teams can register online here.

Last year, scholarships of $2,500 each were awarded to from John Muir High School and Jared Norsworthy, who attended Marshall Fundamental School, according to the event website.
The event was organized last year by the , in conjunction with the Clergy Community Coalition after a coach of Jackson's came up with the idea to honor him through the scholarship program.
According to Bob Pech, one of the event's organizers, the group hopes to raise enough money for three $2,500 scholarships this year.
Graduating seniors who are interested in applying can fill out an application online. The scholarship requires a minimum 2.5 GPA from a local student with financial needs who is planning to attend a two or four year college.
