ALTADENA, CA — Loma Alta Park is for some snowfall this Saturday — about 40 tons.

The snow is part of the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation's Parks After Dark Program, which aims to bring a "winter wonderland" to local parks this holiday season.

Local children will have the chance to go sledding at the park as well as pay a visit to Santa Claus, park officials said. The free event will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

Norma Edith García-González, executive director of the parks department, said in a statement the Parks After Dark Program is needed more than ever to help families "heal from the trauma brought on by COVID-19."

"This free event eliminates barriers to recreational opportunities and introduces families to enriching experiences that promote mental and physical health by gathering as communities and families in parks," she said.
