Arcadia Voters Reject Measure to Repeal Utility Tax

In the city council race, one familiar face and one new face will fill the two vacant seats.

ARCADIA, CA - Voters in Arcadia have spoken and they like the Utility User tax. Nearly 5,000 voters rejected the repeal Tuesday night.

The measure failed with 4,910 votes against and 2,735 votes for the repeal. Opponents of the repeal were concerned that the loss of revenue would result in cuts to services and policing.

In the city council races, one familiar face and one new face will be joining the council's two vacant seats.

Peter Amundson, a long time resident and former city council member, won with 3,634 votes.

The new face, April Verlato, own with 3,609 votes. Verlato is a personal injury attorney and a proponent of limiting home sizes in the city to avoid "mansionization." She supported the ballot measure to limit home sizes but the measure failed to make the November ballot.
