City of Hope Receives Grant from Hilton Foundation for Cancer Research
The grant will go toward a five-year effort to promote and research the role of healthy habits and nutrition in reducing cancer risk.
DUARTE, CA - City of Hope will put a $2.5 million grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation toward a five-year effort to promote and research the role of healthy habits and nutrition in reducing cancer risk, the research hospital announced Thursday.
The five-year plan involves giving out annual research grants, setting up an 1,800-square-foot farm lab and teaching kitchen, offering a K-12 science education program and expanding nutrition and exercise programs to more campuses in the Duarte Unified School District and surrounding communities.
Obesity and poor eating habits are considered risks leading to cancer, according to City of Hope President and CEO Robert W. Stone, who said the grant will go toward "latest cancer prevention research and strategies" that will benefit "underserved populations in Southern California."
