Year in Review Report: 'City Financially Strong'

City staff members will present today a report on Baldwin Park's performance and accomplishments during 2011.

At tonight's City Council meeting, staff members from various city departments will present an updated report on city's performance, challenges and accomplishments during 2011.

The report (see it attached with our photos) asserts the city not only survived the economic downturn of 2011, but remains financially strong despite lower revenues. 

According to the report, the best examples of the city's financial standing are its $5.5 million cash balance reserve as well as Standard and Poor's upgrading of one its bonds from "A-" to "A".

"Unlike many other organizations, which are struggling to balance their budgets and are implementing program cuts, potential layoffs, pay reductions, depleting reserves or implementing other drastic measures such as reducing services, we have maintained [a] majority of programs and services funded in the prior year and still strengthened our fiscal condition," said the report authored by Vijay Singhal, city chief executive officer. 

The report also states that , surpassing West Covina, El Monte, Glendora or Irwindale, based on FBI crime statistics for calendar year 2010.

The city continues to promote recreation and community wellness programs and for a third year, according to the report.

The council agenda also includes recognition of the team for winning a math competition and a presentation of a plaque to outgoing Planning Commissioner James Dexter.
