Job Fair in Irwindale Set for Next Week

On Wednesday, recruiters from a variety of industries will come to San Gabriel Valley in search of potential employees.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that California's unemployment rate stands at 11 percent, and in some cities, that rate is even higher.

Next Wednesday, a variety of employers will congregate to help the unemployed at the 's job fair.  The event will feature recruiters with immediate openings ranging from entry-level positions to management jobs.

The event is sponsored by the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce, the City of Irwindale and the office of State Senator Ed Hernández, and the California Employment Development Department (EDD).

"We need to be doing everything we can to encourage job growth, including events like this where employers are matched up with prospective employees and people are given the tools they need to succeed” said Senator Hernández.

According to a report published by Patch Latino last month, the unemployment rate in Baldwin Park stood at 14.4 percent. In cities such as Lynwood and South Gate, the unemployment rate was even higher, at 18.2 percent and 14.7 percent, respectively.

The event will take place Wednesday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Gabriel Valley Corporate Campus, located at 4920 Rivergrade Road, in Irwindale.

"Job applicants should dress professionally and be prepared to make a good first impression, because all the employers attending will be eager to hire," reads the announcement posted on the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce Web site.

Among the companies confirmed to participate are: Miller Brewers, Athens Services, Caltrans, Charter Communications, Covina Police Department, Disc Works Inc., Dolphin Trucking School, DSS Staffing, Express Employment Professionals, and Foothill Transit Constructors.
