Baldwin Park May Disband Police Department to Close Budget Deficit
Many options are being considered in order to reduce over $1 million in deficit projected for next fiscal year, including the elimination various programs.
Due to a projected budget deficit of more than one million dollars for next fiscal year, the City of Baldwin Park might consider the option of dismantling its police department and contracting with the Los Angeles County Sheriff to take care of the city's public safety.
In a report sent to members of City Council, City Administrator Vijay Singhai explains that the City's general fund has an operational deficit of $1,009,246, even after several temporary spending cuts.

According to the report, which is in stark contrast with one presented at the beginning of the year saying that , a decline in revenues, high operation costs and lost revenue due to the dissolution of the Redevelopment Agency have contributed toward the projected deficit.
According to the report's proposal, the city will have to taki in consideration personnel cuts, program cuts, increase revenue through taxes, use reserve funds or find alternatives for public safety services.

The City council will meet this evening to discuss the proposal. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at 14403 E. Pacific Ave., Baldwin Park.
