Fresh and Easy will close in Baldwin Park

The grocery store will close at least 12 stores in three states, seven are in California.

After just one year since it opened, in Baldwin Park will close its doors as part of a company plan to close seven underperforming stores in California.

The El Segundo-based chain announced Monday that stores in Baldwin Park, Anaheim, Bakersfield, Fountain Valley, Fresno, Hemet and Ontario will close within the next few weeks, along with four stores in Phoenix and one in Las Vegas, according to the Fast Food Maven, a blog from the OC Register.

"At this time, there is simply not enough growth in sales and customers at those stores to keep them open," Brendan Wonnacott said to the Fast Food Maven. "We will reopen them when economic and business conditions warrant."

Despite these closures, Fresh & Easy will continue to open more than seven locations in Los Angeles and Orange County by the end of March, including other five stores in Sacramento, according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to Supermarket News, the company will offer the approximately 200 employees at the 12 stores, positions at other locations.
