Sheriff: Man Found Dead in Car in Monterey Park Was Shot in Temple City

Andy Chen, 37, of San Gabriel was arrested on suspicion of murder. Authorities believe the motive was a financial dispute.

TEMPLE CITY, CA - A 37-year-old San Gabriel man was behind bars Tuesday after he was arrested for allegedly killing a man whose body was found in the trunk of a car abandoned in Monterey Park, authorities said.

Min Gu, 30, was shot and killed in a marijuana growing house in Temple City, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives.

The killing occurred in the 5500 block of Sultana Avenue, according to sheriff's homicide detectives.

A foul odor prompted calls from people near the decomposing body, left in a black Lexus sedan in the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue in Monterey Park.

Police broke into the trunk on March 21, sheriff's Sgt. Vincent Plair said.

Andy Chen was arrested Monday about 2:25 a.m. on suspicion of murder, sheriff's Deputy Ryan Rouzan said.

"Detectives believe the motive for the murder was a financial dispute," Rouzan said.

Chen was being held on $1 million bail, according to L.A. County jail records. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in Alhambra Superior Court.
